Berlin for Queer and Queens

By: Adeola Naomi

As a grandchild of a WW2 veteran, I have learned to associate Berlin exclusively with war and terror from stories I heard from my grandfather.

In these crazy days of chaos and rise in populism all over the globe, we all deserve some key Tender, Loving Care.

I love getting lost in new places and making up my own stories as I discover the paths along the city.

I needed to create my own version of Berlin sans wars, terror, and the Holocaust.

I have achieved to find love in my heart for Berlin by finding some pretty awesome safe spaces for queer POC.

My husband when to Berlin and loved it. After the atrocities of the WWII, the city tried hard to repair its terrible reputation and the monuments and memorials are stellar and touching. Cannot wait to visit.

It’s difficult to find sunshine through the clouds but it seems that is exactly what you’ve done. You’re not ignoring the past but growing from it to help illuminate a brighter present that can really help save someone! Berlin is on my places to visit.

I think most Americans have a bias toward Berlin. I remember very vividly the images of the wall being torn down. Glad you’re finding your own space and perspective.

I’ve never given any thought to visiting Berlin. Just has never been on my radar. Great post and pics, though.

So nice that you were able to create your own story, even after what you had heard. And that you did find places that were not like what you’d heard about Berlin.

I would love to read more about this journey. Such a contrast between war time Berlin and now. Please share more.
