Editor’s Letter: SISTERHOOD Issue

The bond between women has always been a sacred one.  Through transitions and births and trauma these relationships are the ones that breathe life into us when everything around us seems suffocating.  It’s a space of support and healing and one of the few places where some of us feel seen. Many times our sisters, chosen or biological, know us better than our partners and our parents. I was raised with two brothers, but I have acquired many sisters along my journey who have supported and encouraged me while also being able to sit me down and say, “hey sis, you’re tripping.” I have also had sisters that were placed in my life only for a season, and although we chose different paths, I love them all the same. In this issue our contributors will explore all the ways in which sisterhood has informed their experiences, we talk about the pains of growing apart and knowing when to let go of toxic relationships, and how to open ourselves up to new friendships. As the new moon enters Leo, we will also explore ways that we can empower ourselves and set our intentions for the second half of this year.  We will be sharing photos of the beauty that lies in sisterhood on our Instagram @DistinguishedDiva so please post your photos of you and your sisters and tag them #DDSisters and we will share them with the collective.

Love & Light,

Sisterhood is one of the most precious gifts of life. Thank you for encouraging unity among us. What a powerful force we’ll be if we make this a habit 🙂

I love this. Perfect timing also with the release of the movie Girls Trip. I love that you acknowledged that sisterhood can go much further than blood.

We definitely need to continue lifting one another up and sharing each others triumphs. Great initiative!

I love this series. I love how the idea of sisterhood is once again becoming that thing to celebrate. I will definitely follow the hashtag on the Gram.

I am so appreciative of the sisters I’ve gained as I grew into adulthood. From my Soror’s to friends I have bonded with in the various cities I have lived in, they truly help get me get through tough times.

The sisterhood bond is one of a kind. It is the tightest bond I have and I value it. It’s one of the many things that makes us unique.

I don’t know where I would be at times, where it not for the bond I have with my sister-friends. I would love to contribute a piece if possible.

Though I can’t speak from the woman’s perspective, I can definitely say that even without any biological brothers a bond can still be formed.

I love that you are spotlighting sisters! I have three biological sisters that I am close too, as well as many other sisters! Sisterhood is so important!
