Revolution is not a one time event

Author and feminist Audre Lorde once reminded us:

“Revolution is not a one time event.”

As a storyteller, I’ve found it increasingly important to document the ways that folks are healing and resisting, especially on the heels of turbulent times. The following is a compilation of photos I’ve taken over the last two years at protests in Seattle and New York City, with a special focus on the women and femmes of color who continue to show up and show themselves.

Atoosa Moinzadeh is a freelance journalist and photographer from Seattle, now based in Brooklyn.

The raw emotion of the people in the pictures is truly astounding. I love seeing people unite like this for a cause they believe in!

Your photos tell a story that needs to be told each day. I really appreciate that. People need daily reminders and need to take daily action in order for change to actually happen.

Revolution takes TIME! I think that people who aren’t involved don’t really understand the journey that one has to go on to have change come about. Especially when you’re fighting something that seems to have no type of weakness, but is bad for everything that it comes across.

This is a much needed story. Black women shoulder the burden of the world. Yet we are treated less than. Great story telling.

Now is the time for triumph, victory, and embracing a warrior spirit. In the past, our ancestors survived much worse. We will overcome.
